It’s Turkey Day week and, like last year around this time, the Eagles season is in shambles. In fact, the sporting landscape, here in the City of Brotherly Love, is, overall, even worse this year than it was a year ago (hard to believe that could even be possible) – the Phillies failed to even make the postseason, the Sixers signed damaged goods in Andrew Bynum (in fact, I’m on record as stating that I do not think he’ll play even one minute as a Sixer), and the Flyers and the rest of the NHL look like they may not even have a season at all this year. To make things worse…I think Homeland (one of my favorite shows) may be “jumping the shark”. All this combined with missing-out on Halloween this year and, as you might imagine…I’ve been in a bit of a funk recently. But, as Eric Idle once sang, “Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life” (although there is a line in there that says “Life’s a piece of sh*t when you look at it”…but let’s not focus on that) – and in that spirit…and in the spirit of the Thanksgiving Holiday, here are ten things that I am thankful for (in no particular order);
Try To Be Thankful
1. My wife and family (including all our pets past and present)
2. My home
3. My friends (which mostly fall under family for me)
4. MSNBC
5. The ability to make a living playing guitar
6. The Walking Dead
7. Drop Dead Sexy (including all our members, crew, and fans past and present)
8. Boardwalk Empire
9. The outcome of the election (don’t be mad Republicans…we can all still be friends)
10. The fact that I’m not a 6’4″ spikey-haired bass player with skin like a page of notebook paper (in both tone and texture)
I guess things aren’t so bad after all. And to make sure I maintain a sunny outlook, I think I’m gonna hold off on my Holliday shopping until December 21. I mean, if the Mayans are right…I’ll be damned if I’m gonna spend any of my last days at the mall.
