It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia

Below is an optimistic entry from this past summer…feels like a long time ago now.  Let’s review what has transpired since; Phillies were the best team in baseball all year but lose in the first round of the playoffs to a team that they were better than (and, as of right now, look like they won’t even make the playoffs this year), Eagles go 8 and 8 and miss the playoffs altogether while a 9 and 7 rival backs into the playoffs and ends up winning the Superbowl, Flyers super high-priced goalie is a massive disappointment for most of the year and carries the worst GAA and save percentage in the playoffs all the way to a 2nd round loss to a less talented team – good thing his contract is only NINE F*@KING YEARS LONG!!  I would comment that the Sixers have an outside shot at earning the honor of losing to the Heat in the semi finals but…I’m done with optimism.

It’s been pretty exciting to be a Philadelphia sports fan recently.  Several weeks ago the Flyers picked up Ilya Bryzgalov and Jaromir Jagr while completely revamping the entire team.  Then, this past Friday, the Eagles came completely out of nowhere and signed Nnamdi Asomugha right out from under the noses of the Jets and the Cowboys just hours prior to the Phillies announcing that they got Hunter Pence!!!  And all this just months after bringing Cliff Lee back to Philly where he belongs.  In hopes to keep up with the rest of the franchises that call The City of Brotherly Love home, I hear the Sixers are looking into picking up Moses (not Malone…THE Moses) out of the Israeli League.  His outside shot isn’t great but they really like his leadership and you should just see him take it to the hole – he parts defenders like…well…you know.  The only issue is that he has ten conditions that must be met before he’ll sign…and apparently they’re written in stone or something – we’ll see what happens…his agent can be a real hard-ass.  Of course, none of this will matter if these moves don’t translate into Championships (ask Heat fans…even getting there isn’t good enough) but, for the moment, this sure is a lot of fun.  I know, I know, there are many DDS fans from manyother states and most are not Philly fans…and we really do love you all (hell, we even have a traitor in our own ranks – although I’d hate to call John out by name…it’s John…his name isJohn…the drummer…he roots for the Yankees and the Steelers…not sure if I’ve ever mentioned it before).  And some of you may feel like I should, occasionally, talk about other teams.  So, I just want to re-assure you all that, with the exception of me voicing my disdain for those other teams…that’s just not going to happen  :o)
