Here we are, last week of November

Here we are, last week of November (and it’s 70 degrees outside – did it or did it not snow 2 days before Halloween??), week 12 of the NFL season, and the day after the Eagles effectively ended their post-season hopes…”Black Monday” if you will (however, if there’s a color darker than Black that I’m overlooking…I’m willing to change the name to that) – I’m not even mad anymore…I’m indifferent…and that’s even worse. The “dream” that was to be the Eagles’ season has officially turned into “A Nightmare On Broad Street” (that name I’m not willing to change). Looking back, what have we learned? Well, the first thing is…you can not make an offensive-line coach a defensive coordinator (although, I think we (the fans) already knew that). Second, linebackers are way more important than Andy seems to think they are (although, I think we (the fans) already knew that too).

The third thing we learned is that top-flight cornerbacks that excel in press-coverage don’t necessarily excel in zone-coverage schemes (some of us knew that one too). We also learned that the “wide nine” defense doesn’t work when you draft late-round linebackers and safeties that CAN’T PLAY!! Lastly, we learned that overpaying an injury-prone quarterback and underpaying an undersized punk of a wide receiver with an attitude problem doesn’t make either of them play any better. Oh, we also learned that, contrary to what ALL of the experts have said for decades, an option-style offense can work in the NFL…as long as you draft a born-again Christian QB from The University of Florida to run it – even if it is to the chagrin of his team’s hall-of-fame-QB Vice President. Anyway, if you’re looking for something to do on Sundays from here on out, I highly recommend hitting-up the “On Demand” function on your cable box and catching up on “Boardwalk Empire”, “The Walking Dead”, and “Homeland”…”American Pickers” is kick-ass too.
