The good news was that, unlike flying to Nantucket, we were on a normal sized plane this time…not a van with wings (actually our van has a greater seating capacity than that thing had)…the bad news was that I was seated next to Dave for the entire flight. I kept thinking to myself how awful it would be to die in a plane crash and have Dave’s pasty face be the last thing I see before bursting into flames and being laid down for the eternal dirt-nap – although, the chances of dying of extreme boredom before impact would probably be quite high. At any rate, outside of Scott providing a soundtrack of various dog-barks and power tool noises, the flight was pretty uneventful – as was the hour and a half van ride from Jacksonville Florida to our hotel in Georgia. The real fun began at the party, held at a local bar that night, for all the guests. Actually…the real fun began just after the party. Don’t get me wrong, the party itself was fun…in fact, we even got Dave to loosen-up and have a beer – there’s even a Facebook picture of Dave having fun with us (although, upon further inspection of said photo…Dave actually looks terrified – look at it and decide for yourself) – but when the time came to leave the party and head to the Waffle House and then back to the hotel, Dave decided he should be the one to operate the rented van procured from the Jacksonville airport rental office (I won’t say which office…but it shares it’s name with Captain Kirk’s ride)…and, legally speaking, he was probably correct in this assertment. However, once we all piled in and were underway, Dave seemed to be under the delusion that he was Bo Duke and we were traveling down the road in The General Lee with Sheriff Roscoe P. Coltrane in hot pursuit (must have been the Georgia air)!! He drove like a madman…swervin’ around, goin’ up on grass, stopping too fast (or not at all), flyin’ around turns, accelerating hard away from lights…all the while laughing like a mental-patient. It was SO fun…and hilarious…and terrifying!! Who knew Dave had it in him? Ducky took video of it…but it may be too incriminating to put up on YouTube. Anyway, the next day was the wedding and, interestingly, Edwin McCain, two of his bandmates (Larry and Craig), and his sound-tech (Brent) provided music for the cocktail hour and dinner before we went on later that evening – they sounded absolutely incredible and were all really nice guys. Sunday we had to be up by 6:45am to be on the road back to the airport so we could fly home in time to watch the Eagles lose, take a nap, and head down to AC for the first of our month-long Sunday night engagement at Harrah’s. I had an empty seat next to me on the flight home and, outside of that brief two mile joyride back to the hotel on Friday night…I found it to be much more interesting than Dave.
